Description: These are some of the many reasons it is time to reinvent case management. If you are willing to totally rethink your approach you can get better and more amazing results faster. In this new model the job seeker is seen as the captain of their employment process and the “case manager" becomes their coach. Working together they assemble an employment plan and a pro-work team of people that the captain respects. These people become the employment success team led by the captain. Just as in sports, the coach helps the captain identify their strengths and use these to overcome their barriers. Traditional case management works from a barriers perspective that doesn’t mobilize people’s existing strengths to make progress. The coach asks the captain many questions and guides them through a self-discovery process that results in options that the captain chooses from. The captain relies on the employment team to help them block the influence of anti-work forces and score a victory in the employment process even when the captain isn’t around. In essence, this revolutionary model teaches people how to “case manage” their own employment process and build important life skills at the same time. Regardless of what population you work with, if better employment and quality of life outcomes are your goal you will want to use the captain and coach approach in your work now!
